Setting up multiple settings and/or mailboxes:
One user with Multiple Accounts:
- Eudora Location Manager Module is an Apple Location Manager module will switch between Eudora preferences and settings depending on your location. (Location Manager is a PowerBook utility).
- Eudora Pro (3.1 and above) handles multiple accounts internally, although one can still use the multiple settings files method linked to above if one prefers to keep separate address books, etc.
- Mail Dock by Five Horsemen Of The Apocalypse Software will let you easily use multiple accounts with Eudora. It is a FAT application. It will check for mail automatically and is scriptable.
Multiple Users on One Machine:
- ShareBox creates a list of users, each having their password protected, personal mailbox. To define a new
user, after launching ShareBox, a user needs only to fill-in the requested fields in a dialog box. To access their personal mailbox, users simply select their name from the list of registered users, then type the required password. ShareBox lauches Eudora automatically, ready to use.
- EMAILabdisk is a script designed for use in Mac labs where students use floppy disks to check their email. It prompts the user for their name, email address, and POP acount, and saves a custom Eudora Settings file and signature file to the floppy. This allows you to create a "template" settings file, and use script editor to customize the script for your lab.
- Eudora Launcher 1.07 is an AppleScript for creating Eudora disks. Advantages to this script over EMAILabdisk are: it will support all writable/ejectable media (floppies, Zip Disks, Jaz, etc.), and does not erase the disk so the user can use the disk for other than just email. [Detailed Description]
- Make a Eudora E-mail disk by David Carter-Tod. This AppleScript will unstuff a Eudora folder onto any removable disk. In doing so, it prompts users for their PID or e-mail address, and their real name. It then fills in the appropriate settings in the settings dialog, and runs Eudora opening both the In box and a very simple Read Me file. The situation it has been designed for is for students in a lab environment where they are not allowed to save onto hard disks. By running this script they create a folder with their settings which they can use anywhere at an institution that has Eudora for Mac.
- Lab Manager forces people to log on to a computer before using it (very handy for lab situations) and is available for Mac and Win3.1 (supposedly not stable on Win95)
Checking for mail:
- AutoLaunch is one of many great tools from St. Clair Software. It will run the application (and thus script) of your choice when your computer is idle for the number of minutes you choose, or when you move the cursor to whichever corner you preset. For example, instead of having Eudora check every x minutes, you could have AutoLaunch set to run a script to check mail either if your computer is idle for a bit or you move the cursor to the corner you chose.
- Check Mail During the Day by Richard Long is a script that sets certain hours and days when automatic checks are done. For example you can set Eudora to only perform automatic checks from 9am to 5pm on weekdays.
- Email Checker checks your email at specified time intervals using your email program, AppleScript and OpenTransport/PPP
- MailSniffer for
Macintosh, by William Leshner, does not work directly with Eudora. It is a minimal POP client that counts the messages in a user's mailbox. MailSniffer will optionally list the subjects and senders of either new or all messages. MailSniffer can also optionally perform several actions, such as run a script or notify the user, when the mailbox contains more than a user specified number of messages. MailSniffer French
is also available.
- Call Eudora scripts for MailSniffer to call Eudora when you have new mail. Thus, if you don't like Eudora interrupting you every x minutes to check for new mail, you can have MailSniffer check for new mail, and only have Eudora check for mail when there is new mail on the server. You can even tell MailSniffer to not call the script unless there are more than a certain number of new messages on the server.
- Show Me The Mail (SMTM), by Dan Crevier, is an application for displaying messages when mail is received by Emailer 2.0, Eudora 2.1+, or LetterRip 2.0. The messages float above other windows, so they are always visible. They also show who the message is from and what the subject is.
Checking mail automatically:
- Eudora Pro comes with MacSLIP, which also handles PPP. If you use MacSLIP, then Eudora can tell MacSLIP to hangup automatically after checking for mail. See MacSLIP FAQ for information on setting up MacSLIP. Also see the MacSLIP manual that came with your Eudora Pro software.
- Eudora 3.1 and above will also connect and disconnect automatically from OT/PPP.
